I-L-U Self-massage

Purpose

This self-massage technique can be used to help neutralize both constipation and loose bowels, as well to decrease generalized pelvic and abdominal pain.

Technique

  1. “I”- form the letter “I” by stroking from left ribcage, down to left hipbone 10x.
  2. “L”- form the letter “L” by stroking from right ribcage, across to left ribcage, and down to left hipbone 10x.
  3. “U”- form the letter “U” by stroking from the right hip bone, up to the right ribcage, across to left ribcage, and down to left hipbone 10x.
  4. Finish with 1-2 minutes of clockwise circular massage around the belly button to stimulate the small intestine.

Tips

  • Position:
    • semi-reclined lying- use small amount of lotion
    • standing in shower- use bath gel
  • Use firm but gentle pressure
  • Do once daily, perhaps half an hour after breakfast
