Home remedy for hemorrhoids and fissures

External hemorrhoids or fissures

  1. Test witch hazel on unaffected area and look for any signs of negative reaction, such as redness, burning or itching.
  2. Clean rectal area gently with warm water. Pat dry.
  3. Saturate clean cloth with witch hazel extract.
  4. Apply to external anal tissue for few minutes.
  5. Then let the area air dry for a few minutes before getting dressed.
  6. Repeat a few times a day or after each bowel movement.
  7. Can also try a homeopathic OTC cream called Proctosan for external hemorrhoids.

Internal hemorrhoids

  1. In a bowl, mix 1 tsp witch hazel tincture and 1 tsp coconut butter (if no sensitivities to either).
  2. Form into shape of a suppository (small, oval shape).
  3. Wrap in plastic wrap and place in freezer for 1-2 hours.
  4. Remove from freezer, remove plastic wrap and cut in half if it appears too large. (Put the other half back in plastic wrap and store in freezer until next application.)
  5. Lay on your side, top knee bent toward your chest. Lift your top buttocks with one hand.
  6. Apply lubricant to the anal area and insert suppository 1 inch into anus with your index finger (can use a glove if you prefer).
  7. Wash hands thoroughly.

Tips

  • Use a spray bottle to clean the anus after a bowel movement instead of toilet paper
  • Use only warm water to wash the area or a very mild, unscented soap if absolutely necessary
  • Gently pat the area dry after a bath/shower; do not rub
  • Do not strain when defecating
  • Use optimal “potty posture” when defecating
